Day 44

Lukewarm 

Revelation 3:14–15 (NKJV)  “And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, ‘These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot.

Revelation 3:16–17 (NKJV)  So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked…

Located in Asia Minor, the city of Laodicea, the richest of the seven churches, was known for its banking industry, wool manufacturing, and eye salve. Members of the church had acquired wealth and fallen into the deception of riches. Becoming self-sufficient the church lost its enthusiasm or love for Christ.

Jesus’ words of knowing they were neither hot or cold but lukewarm toward him, reminds me of a young man pursuing a young woman’s heart and wishing she was either hot or cold toward him.

The best situation for a young man pursuing a young lady is when she enthusiastically (hot) welcomes his telephone call and readily accepts an invitation to dinner or a movie.

The worst situation for the young man is when the young lady is lukewarm toward him. When he calls and invites her out, she becomes indecisive and hesitant. She says she doesn’t know what she wants to do yet and asks the young man if he would call again later in the week when she will be able to make up her mind. This young lady is waiting for a better offer, she is lukewarm toward the young man, which leaves him in a state of not knowing if he should pursue her or not.

The second-best situation results when the young lady is unemotional or unfriendly toward the young man when he calls upon her. This coldness challenges the young man to try to win her closer to him or stop wasting his time pursuing her (spew her out of his mouth) and move on with his life.

And so, it is with Christ, He wants us hot or cold but not lukewarm.

Ending Thoughts

We live in a world of multiple distractions that can dull our enthusiasm toward Christ. Is Christ at center of your life or have the cares and distractions of life taken his place?

Day 43

Answering the Accuser

Psalm 17:8 (NKJV), Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings…”

Psalm 3:3 (NKJV), But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory and the One who lifts up my head.

Colossians 3:3 (NKJV), For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

These verses, and there are many more like them, direct our attention to the protective virtues of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Psalm 17 verse 8 projects the imagery of a mother bird protecting her young by hiding them under her wings, and Colossians 3 verse 3 declares our life is hidden in Christ. And Psalm 3 verse 3 declares our Lord to be a shield of protection.

To be hidden in Christ or living under the shadow of His wings one must remain in covenant. For when we are abiding in Christ (living in covenant with Him) we are hidden in the shadow of His wings and the shield of Faith is activated and energized and continues to protect us from the fiery darts, which are the accusations of the wicked one.

Because we are dead and hidden in Christ when the accuser knocks on the door of our mind with his multiple accusations, Jesus Christ answers. How does He do that you ask?

Before conversion our natural reaction was to defend ourselves viciously against our accusers or angrily agree with the accusations against others. However, with our new nature, the nature of Love, the nature of Christ that is formed in us, when the accusations come the appropriate virtue of Christ, such as forgiveness, or patience, answers the door.

1 Peter 2:9 (AMP), But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God’s] own purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

We have been called forth to shine the light of Christ, His deeds and virtues and perfections into a fallen dark world.

Ending thought

Is Christ through, the virtues of love, answering the accuser when he knocks on your door?

Dia 43

Respondendo ao acusador

Salmo 17:8 (NKJV) Guarda-me como à menina dos teus olhos; esconde-me debaixo da sombra das tuas asas...”

Salmo 3:3 (NKJV) Porém tu, Senhor, és escudo para mim, a minha glória, é aquele que levanta a minha cabeça.

Colossenses 3: 3 (NKJV) Porque já estais mortos, e a vossa vida está escondida com Cristo em Deus.

Esses versículos, e há muitos mais como eles, direcionam nossa atenção para as virtudes protetoras de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo. O versículo 8 do Salmo 17 projeta a imagem de uma mãe protegendo seus filhotes, escondendo-os sob suas asas e Colossenses 3 verso 3 declara que nossa vida está escondida em Cristo. E o Salmo 3 verso 3 declara que nosso Senhor é um escudo de proteção.

Estar escondido em Cristo ou viver sob a sombra de Suas asas é permanecer em aliança. Pois quando permanecemos em Cristo (vivendo em aliança com Ele), estamos escondidos na sombra de Suas asas e o escudo da Fé é ativado e energizado e esta continuamente à nos proteger dos dardos inflamados do maligno os quais são as acusações do maligno.  Porque estamos mortos e escondidos em Cristo quando o acusador bate na porta da nossa mente com suas múltiplas acusações, Jesus Cristo responde. Como ele faz isso?

Antes da conversão, nossa reação natural era nos defender fortemente contra nossos acusadores ou com raiva concordar com as acusações contra os outros. Contudo, revidamos à essas acusações através de nossa nova natureza, a natureza do Amor, a natureza de Cristo que é formada em nós, por exemplo respondemos com o perdão ou paciência.

1 Pedro 2: 9 (AMP) Mas vós sois a geração eleita, o sacerdócio real, a nação santa, o povo adquirido, especial de Deus, para que anuncieis as virtudes e perfeições daquele que vos
chamou das trevas para a sua maravilhosa luz. 

Nós fomos chamados para resplandecer à luz de Cristo, Seus feitos e virtudes e perfeições em um mundo escuro e caído.

Concluindo a meditação     

Quando o acusador bate à sua porta com acusações e mentiras, Cristo tem sido a resposta através de sua vida com as virtudes do amor?

Day 42

From Glory to Glory

2 Corinthians 3:17–18 (ESV),  Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

The words, with unveiled face, refer to Moses wearing a veil when he returned from Mount Sinai with the Ten Commandment. Those that tried to please God in the Old Testament found themselves under a heavy burden of rules and ceremonies and the feeling of being guilty when they broke the covenant. When you turn you heart toward Christ and repent of you sin you are freed from the guilt and the burden of rules and ceremonies. You are freed to live for and build your relationship with Christ and His Father.

As we travel the Narrow Path to Relationship with God we draw closer and closer to Jesus. The veil that hid the glory of the Lord from Israel is removed and we can now draw close to Christ, who is the Glory of God.

As we read the Bible and are taught by the Holy Spirit we see the nature/image of Christ.  As we obey the commandment to love, Holy Spirit molds us into the Image of Christ, by revealing areas in our lives that are not Christ like.  As we repent and continue to follow Christ, we are changed from Glory to Glory. The Glory of God, the nature of love can then shine out of us into a dark dying world.

Ending Thoughts

Freedom in Christ is not freedom to indulge the flesh. Freedom in Christ is being set free from the heavy burden of trying to please God through rules and ceremonies and the guilt of failing.

Follow the Narrow Road beloved, be free to live for Christ.

Dia 42

De Glória em Glória

2 Coríntios 3: 17–18 (ESV), 17 Agora o Senhor é o Espírito, e onde está o Espírito do Senhor, há liberdade. 18 E todos nós, com rosto descoberto, contemplando a glória do Senhor, estamos sendo transformados na mesma imagem de um grau de glória para outro. Pois isto vem do Senhor que é o Espírito.

As palavras, com o rosto descoberto, referem-se a Moisés usando um véu quando ele retornou do Monte Sinai com o Dez Mandamentos. Aqueles que tentaram agradar a Deus no Antigo Testamento encontraram-se sob um pesado fardo de regras e cerimônias e o sentimento de serem culpados quando quebraram o pacto. Quando você volta seu coração para Cristo e se arrepende de seu pecado, você fica livre da culpa e do peso das regras e cerimônias. Você está livre para viver e construir seu relacionamento com Cristo e Seu Pai.

Enquanto percorremos o caminho estreito para o relacionamento com Deus, nos aproximamos cada vez mais de Jesus. O véu que ocultou a glória do Senhor de Israel é removido e agora podemos nos aproximar de Cristo, que é a glória de Deus.

Quando lemos a Bíblia e somos ensinados pelo Espírito Santo, vemos a natureza / imagem de Cristo. Ao obedecermos ao mandamento de amar, o Espírito Santo nos molda à imagem de Cristo, revelando áreas em nossas vidas que não são semelhantes a Cristo. Quando nos arrependemos e continuamos a seguir a Cristo, somos transformados de Glória em Glória. A Glória de Deus, a natureza do amor pode então brilhar de nós em um mundo moribundo e sombrio.

Concluindo a meditação

Liberdade em Cristo não é liberdade para satisfazer a carne. Liberdade em Cristo está sendo libertada do pesado fardo de tentar agradar a Deus através de regras e cerimônias e da culpa do fracasso.

Siga a estrada estreita amada, seja livre para viver para Cristo.

Day 41

Dead Faith

James 2:14 (AMP) 14 What is the use (profit), my brethren, for anyone to profess to have faith if he has no [good] works [to show for it]? Can [such] faith save [his soul]?

Dead faith and cold love are the twin towers of the society and world we live in where many mentally agree that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and call themselves Christians, but based on their actions all they really have is intellectual assent, (mentally agreement).

James 2:17 (AMP) 17 So also faith, if it does not have works (deeds and actions of obedience to back it up), by itself is destitute of power (inoperative, dead).

People that have received saving faith and are following the Narrow Path to Relationship with God are being transformed from a selfish nature to a nature of Love which activates, and energies faith, which in turn is translated into action.

Love motivates people to nurse the sick, care for the orphans, preach the Gospel, help the poor, support widows, and opens the door of your heart to receive and walk in the promises of God.

Back in the 60’s The Beatles, a popular secular band, sang a song that contained the verse “All we need is Love”. It was true then and it is still true today for faith without love is dead.

Ending Thoughts

Has your conduct changed since you received Christ as your Savior?  When you see a beggar on the street or come across a family in need, are you motivated to help? If you are your faith is being activated by love.

Dia 41

Fé morta 

Tiago 2:14 (AMP) 14 Qual é o uso (lucro), meus irmãos, para alguém professar ter fé, se ele não tem [boas] obras [para mostrar para ele]? Pode [tal] fé salvar [sua alma]? Fé inoperante e amor frio são as torres gêmeas da sociedade e do mundo em que vivemos onde muitos concordam que Jesus Cristo é o Filho de Deus e se chamam cristãos, mas baseado em suas ações, tudo o que eles realmente têm é consentimento intelectual.

Tiago 2:17 (AMP) 17 Assim também a fé, se não tiver obras (ações e ações de obediência para apoiá-la), por si só é destituída de poder (inoperante, morta).

As pessoas que receberam a fé salvadora e estão seguindo o Caminho Estreito para o Relacionamento com Deus estão sendo transformadas de natureza egoísta para uma natureza de Amor que ativa e energiza a fé, que por sua vez é traduzida em ação.

O amor motiva as pessoas a amamentar os doentes, cuidar dos órfãos, pregar o Evangelho, ajudar os pobres, apoiar as viúvas e abrir a porta do seu coração para receber e seguir as promessas de Deus.

Nos anos 60, The Beatles, uma popular banda secular, cantou uma música que continha o verso “All we need is Love”. Era verdade então e ainda é verdade hoje para a fé sem que o amor esteja morto.

Sua conduta mudou desde que você recebeu a Cristo como seu Salvador? Quando você vê um mendigo na rua ou se depara com uma família em necessidade, você está motivado para ajudar? Se você é sua fé está sendo ativada pelo amor.
