Meditation 102
Preparing for the End of All Things
1 Peter 4:7–8 (NKJV) "But the end of
all things is at hand; therefore, be serious and watchful in your prayers. And
above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a
multitude of sins.”
The words, “the end of all things is
at hand” written by Peter are more relevant now than ever. We could look at the
signs of the times, which are in the news media every day, but it is more
important to look at the advice Peter gave to prepare us.
His first instruction, be serious and
disciplined about prayer, is the corner stone upon which we should be building
our relationship with the Lord. Prayer is simply sharing your heart with the
Lord and listening for Him to share His heart with you. It is best to set aside
a specific place and time for communicating so the distractions of the day do
not interfere with listening to the Lord speak. However, you can talk to Him
all day long and He will listen.
Peter secondly emphasizes love for one
another as a top priority, because it fulfills the requirement of the New
Covenant, and covers a multitude of sin. How many times has someone shared the
bad news about someone just so you could pray? That is not covering a person’s
sin. If you love someone you will cover their sin by not gossiping about their
failures. Instead, you will continue to love and pray for them.
Ending
Thoughts
Even if you don’t believe the end of
time is at hand, Peter’s advice of being serious about prayer and loving one
another is pertinent to your journey with God. If you don’t have a prayer life
ask Holy Spirit to help you develop one, and stay on the Narrow Path leading to
a Relationship with God and your love for others will grow.
