The Potter
Jeremiah 18:1–4 (NKJV) The word which
came to Jeremiah from the Lord,
saying: “Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to
hear My words.” Then I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was,
making something at the wheel. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred
in the hand of the potter; so, he made it again into another vessel, as it
seemed good to the potter to make.
Notice the sequence of events in this
passage. First Jeremiah heard the Lord speak and then he obeyed and went to the
potter’s house. When he arrived at the Potter’s house he saw the potter making
a vessel from imperfect clay. Jeremiah
watched as the potter removed the flawed piece of clay and then reformed the
clay into another vessel. And then the Lord spoke to Jeremiah.
The same steps Jeremiah took are the
steps we take while following the Narrow Path. First, we recognize Jesus is
speaking to us when He gave the commandment that we Love one another as He
loved us. Second, as we obey the
commandment, the Lord through Holy Spirit, shows us the flaws in our character
that are not like Jesus. Third, as we acknowledge and repent He removes our
character flaws and continues to mold us into the image of Jesus. Forth, as our
relationship grows our love for Him grows and we are able to recognize His
voice clearer and our trust/faith in Him grows.
Ending Thoughts
Everyone’s character when compared
with the image of Jesus has flaws. However, our Father has laid out a plan to
mold us into the image of Christ. Continue to follow the command to love and
remember your flaws will be exposed through the circumstances you face in life.
